The recently-updated Learning Beautiful Classroom Set is our best-selling introductory collection of the Learning Beautiful computational thinking materials. This set includes everything to get started integrating this curriculum into the classroom—complete with lesson plans written by Montessori educators and engaging children’s books that invite children to explore ideas as narratives. No prior knowledge about computers is required! This set introduces concepts such as the binary number system, image representation, coding, abstraction, data structures, and basic computational vocabulary. All of these concepts are demonstrated through tactile materials that align with the science of early childhood development, without any digital components or screens. They are designed for children ages 3 to 9, with guidance in the curriculum handbook on how best to introduce them across developmental stages. All materials provide opportunity for both individual and group exploration.
These computational thinking materials were researched and developed at the MIT Media Lab in collaboration with computer scientists and Montessori experts. They have been tested in Montessori classrooms and are loved in hundreds of public and private classrooms, homes and libraries across the country. All of our materials are ethically manufactured in upstate New York, and made from high-quality, durable materials including birch wood, cork, and natural water-based dyes. These materials are designed to be timeless—and beautiful.
